Another Stolen comic idea....

#1 Post by The Wonder Weezel »

A few weeks ago, there was a thread about a calvin and hobbes idea that was used by somebody... and then somebody made a copy of a garfield one....

well, somebody did it again :x

Image

this was in the comics.... and i recognized it before i even read the text... its a sort-of-famous internet comic... not like movie star famous, but people who use the internet daily have probably seen this comic a few times here and there.

anyway, the person made two frames to give it some originality or something, but the main frame is like an exact copy of the original comic... I hope some of you recognize it, because im searching and cant find it at the moment.... all i could find was this thumbnail:

EDIT: ( I FOUND THE COMIC..... THUMBNAIL DIDNT WORK ANYWAY.... DOWN THERE V V V V V*

but either way, it dissapoints me that people copy like.. exact comics... its one thing to use an idea, which i could see as o.k. if they totally changed the look of the comic and stuff.... like if they did a comic based on the original joke. but copying the exact comic and changing the charactors is low... especially for comics that millions of people have seen.... *like calivn and hobbes, garfield, and probably this one*

EDIT: here, i found the original... i remember now, its a "Bizarro" comic by Dan Piarro or something.... i love Bizzaro :)

I hate it when people do that. Man, they should know better.

Plus the original version is always so much better.

Woah...that's an exact ripoff of that comic!
The thing is, most of these comics that get in aren't even modified to be the least bit Neopet-related. Only the characters are changed.
Really, when will these people ever learn?

lol, i've never seen that one before :)

but it is a shame that people do this, why can't they been more orginal?

is there a way to report this though? like cite the orginal work, and show how its a obvious rip-off?

and the odd thing is, the thumbnail shows up in the topic review panel 0.o so i can read it now.. odd.
If you see my sanity, get it to give me a call.

Wow, I remember that comic. I hate it when people rip off existing comics -- maybe they think it's an homage or something, but it's really just plagiarism.

And at first glance I thought the blowdryer in the Neopets version was a gun, so it didn't make much sense anyway. The real one is better because the cord's hanging down and you can really tell it's a blowdryer.

I say report it. I got angry whenever there was a story that ripped off Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I'm loads of people on the staff know Monty Python, but they still put up that unoriginal piece of garbage.

Anybody who touches classics like this comic and Monty Python need to be slapped. It disgusts me.

I've never seen that original comic before, but I say report it. I hate it when people rip off things and say it's their own.

Yes, at first I couldn't figure out why the bunny was going to shoot snow pets, since it'd be easy to fill it back in. Once I saw the bottom one I got it.

Report it or editorial it.

O_o What's the point of stealing something and putting it on the internet? You don't gain very much...

Stolen Artwork

I said it was a direct rip off of the copyrighted "Bizarro" comic and just gave TNT the link to the original (and also a link to alleballe1988's comic so they can see for themselves).

I dunno why people still think they can get away with it. It should be immediate icing since Neopets can get sued for copyright infringement.

I absolutely agree - they should be frozen or at least warned, but TNT needs to put up a notice somewhere about not ripping off other work (not just other users' work). They could get themselves in deep trouble for something like that :/

Great Scott... That isn't fair. Thinking of jokes can be hard, but people should really, really, think of them theirselves.

And if they have to use a old joke, they should even change it in SOME WAY.

Next someone's going to start a comic called "Neo Arcade", which basically is Penny Arcade, but in Neopets style!! OOH.

Report it report it report it..... We all have to get it through these people's heads that they can't steal/copy someone else's artwork!! :x

I'm thinking that one of the draik day pics is also a stolen piece of artwork... some dragon that looks an aweful lot like some thing from the anime Yugioh.

Can they be sued if the comic steals the underlying idea but not the artwork itself? I don't think so... it's not as if the original artist copyrighted the idea!

Not that I approve of it, of course. I think their entries should not be chosen at all. What's the point of being able to produce pictures if you have to steal ideas for it?
