Rightio, I'm having FTP issues connecting to my site. CuteFTP decided to stop working for me a couple of days ago, and says it's unable to connect. I contacted the support department at my host, and they said it was a problem on my side, and suggested trying a different client. So far I've tried CuteFTP and FireZilla.
The error I get when using CuteFTP is:
Quote:
ERROR:> The remote host actively refused the attempt to connect to it.
1) Verify that the destination server name or IP address is correct
2) Verify that the connection port number is correct (under Site Settings | Type tab).
3) The remote server may be temporarily or permanently inaccessible (try again later).
4) Verify that you have chosen the right protocol (SSH2, SSL, FTP, etc.) and have setup all required options for that protocol.
5) Verify that the destination IP address and port numbers are correct.
6) The remote server may be refusing multiple connections from the same client. Try using only one connection thread when connecting to this particular server (Site Settings | Options).
7) Try pinging the address.
8) If you are using a router, verify the router is up and running (check by pinging it and then ping an address outside of the router).
9) Do a traceroute to the destination to verify all routers along the connection path are operational.
10) Verify that your subnet mask is setup properly.
11) Verify that your local software or hardware firewall is not blocking outbound connections originating from CuteFTP.
12) Verify that your anti-virus software is not at fault (try disabling it).
The thing is.. I haven't changed any settings. The firewall is actually disabled (yes, I know it's bad. I don't know why it's like that, but I don't control it).
My settings when I log in are as follows:
Host: ftp.lost-thoughts.net (I've also tried
ftp://ftp.lost-thoughts.net and lost-thoughts.net - neither work.)
Username:
mailto:alexthedevil@lost-thoughts.net (Yes, the @lost.thoughts.net needs to be there. I've tried an alternate log in too, and it failed).
Obviously, I'm not putting the password here
I'm at a loss for what to do... I can upload via the web, but I'd really prefer not to. So... any suggestions would be gratefully accepted.
EDIT: Right.. Tried Bulletproof FTP. Restarted this computer. Restarted the computer with the internet connection. Turned the settings for passive FTP in internet options off and back on. Nothing has worked so far >.<
EDIT 2: With the help of Bno, we've managed to determine that it's a problem with my computer, as he was able to connect fine. I'm still at a loss as to how to fix it - I'm about to try installing my fourth FTP program ._.
