Well the title of the movie is 'A series of unfortunate events.' They probably will pull a Harry Potter and keep going if it's popular enough in the box office.

Honk Honk Honk $#%#$% honk hooooonk.

Okay, I just saw it a few hours ago and I gotta say...it was pretty good. It strayed a bit from the books and things were a bit out of order and incomplete, but all in all, it was pretty good.

The following contains info about the movie, not plot-breaking, but if you don't want to know some of the things that occur in the movie, then don't scroll down...

Anyways:

Good Things:

-The beginning was awesome. I loved the whole 3D Animation with the music. It sorta mde me wonder If I was in the right cinema. I could hear shouts of confusion from the people sitting behind me because they had no idea why The Littlest Elf was playing on the screen instead of the movie.

-Another good thing about the movie was, surprisingly, Jim Carey. I thought that he would do a terrible job, but I was wrong. His random outbursts and sly jokes added a nice comedic touch to an otherwise boring scene. The parts where he had to endure the Baudelaire's misfortunes was very funny.

-The ending. As in the credits. Best. Credits. Ever. I normally never hang around for the credits, but this time, the music burnt itself into my head and I just sat there watching the Paper Mario style animation. Good stuff.

Not So Good Things about the movie:

- Jude Law. I'm not saying he's a bad actor or anything like that, but I found the entire narration a bit drab and annoying at times.

- Subtitles for Sunny. I guess this isn't such a bad thing. I didn't like it, but I suppose it was better than having Jude Law interrupt every five seconds to translate Sunny's "words"

- The pace of the story. People, as well as myself, were worried that smashing 3 books into 2 hours would leave a smoosh of information. That sentence didn't really make sense, but I guess what I'm trying to say is that i didn't like how the characters immediately called Montgomery, Uncle Monty and the fact that in two minutes, they were acting as if they had lived there for two weeks. I understand that it would have been difficult to fit 3 books into 2 hours, but I didn't like how rushed it was. It seemed like they were just dying to kill their second and third guardian in order to get the the Marvellous marriage at the end. That's right. The Marvellous Marriage was at the end.

Anyways, that was my spoiler/rant for now. And don't go blaming me if you looked at the text above when i said you shouldn't have. :P

Really? I didn't think it would be that good! From the previews it kind of looks like they shoved all three books into one, though I don't see how that is exactly possible! but if you say its actually pretty good then I might just have to suck it up and go see it!!

Oh man...I'm going to see it on opening night like the true VFD member I am, but I'm not looking forward to it...They completely ruined my favorite character by casting JUDE LAW as Lemony Snicket! I mean, COME ON!

They should've cast Lemony Snicket as Lemony Snicket, because I think all he'll do is narrate and you'll see him writing down stuff...

[Edit] 250th post! Yay! :)

I wish they had :( ...I really want to know what his voice sounds like.

My friend Stef and I are going to see the movie tomorrow night^^ We're both going to wear medium-length beige coats (People who have read the LS unauthorized autobiography will get this :P ) and bring our commonplace books, and take pride in the fact that we'll be the only people willfully in the audience over age 10:D

i only read one of the books, and i HATED it.

but the movie looks, visually, so lovely, that i MAY go check it out. prolly not, though. special effects and sets don't usually compensate for story.

they are hyping the smurf out of it, though. i only watch one or two television shows a day, and i see that commercial at least ten times.

Well, the movie only has the first three books in it. Thats "The Bad Beginning", "The Reptile Room" and "The Wide Window". But at the end of the movie they discover the revelation that they find out in "The Horrible Hospital", y'no what I'm talking about. But the HAVE to show Esmee Squalor and The Quagmire Triplets-Of-Two. So there will be a "Lemony Snicket 2". Hopefully :)

Er.....You totally lost me...I need to go read the books now don't I?? :-P

I saw it today. I would say I'm more relaxed than I used to be about differences between books and movies, and I was fairly happy with the movie till the end.

Spoilers below:
Why did they feel they had to make the ending happy and sweet? The books are NOT very happy and sweet. Really, it was good till that point, but the ending? There wasn't a need for it to be sugar coated like that.

The ending credits were really cool though. ^_^

Well, I didn't get to go on opening night like I wanted to because Steffy's grades were terrible and her mom was driving, but I went and saw it tonight. It was MUCH better than I thought it would be.
(Spoilers ahead!)

Pros:

-Jim Carrey actually did a pretty good job as Olaf! If they hadn't over-hyped the crap out of him being in the movie, I never would have known.

-Sunny was adorable. I absolutely loved the subtitles and everything. I also liked the fact that they stayed in character for her throughout the movie.

-The Littlest Elf! A perfect way to start out the movie by confusing everyone^^

-The music was truly incredible.

-BEST. CREDIT SEQUENCE. EVER! My mom said that the credits were actually more entertaining than the movie :P That song was really catchy too, which goes along with my above comment^^

Cons:

-Klaus wasn't wearing his glasses for a good chunk of the movie. (A minor nitpick, but annoying nonetheless)

-Jude Law. Not nearly mysterious enough to voice act for LS. He just sounds too...happy...

-The thing with the spyglass. I can see how someone who'd never read the books would get extremely confused by the 5-second mention of VFD(which, might I add, was never mentioned again), then the sort of erratic thing with the spyglasses. I'll admit, even I was a bit confused.

-The way the plot was presented seemed as if small chunks were missing from the movie. Especially the whole 'Nice to meet you, pack your bags, we're going to Peru' thing. I was sort of shocked to see The Marvellous Marriage at the end, but I think they worked it in pretty well.

-The ending was WAY too happy. I mean, it would have been pretty frustrating to see the movie end in a depressing manner, but they could have brought it down a BIT more. The thing with the letter from Europe was overly hokey, IMO, although it made me cry :P

All in all, I give it a 8.5/10. The best book-to-movie conversion I've seen since LotR.

Now if only the Harry Potter directors could realize that you can reduce a story and still put in all the major plot points...-sigh-

I have yet to see the movie, gonna go sometime this weekend. =\

Anywho, by the sounds of it, it would be pretty good, cant wait!

As the following paragraph contains a tiny spoiler, please highlight the font in order to read it.

A HAPPY ending? *cough a seriesofUNFORTUNATEevents cough* Oh well, I suppose it cant be helped. If it is a happy ending. I wonder if they've left enough... whachacallit, lets say, loose ends for a sequel?

Although the spoiler was tiny, and I only got it by reading other posts :P Still didnt want to ruin someone's day.

Did anyone else who see it notice that there was a lack of other people, like extras? I don't know, it just seemed weird to me that they were the only car on the street or the only people. There were extras in the market scene but I didn't see them anywhere else. Maybe it was an effect Daniel Handler was going after? Anywho, that just stuck out to me.

I did enjoy the movie otherwise.

I agree with those who said the ending was too happy.

We walk out of the theater, Stu goes to me, "What did you think?" "The ending was too happy." "The ending was too happy?!?!" "Yes." "Oh, nevermind their parents died, every guardian that was nice to them died, they don't even deserve a happy ending? It wasn't even that happy!" "Yes, it was." The argument kinda died at this point with my voice. =P

Anyway, it was all right...not wonderful, but all right.

Hahahahaha, that's funny. I'm not a big Jim Carrey fan . . . at all.

All in all, the movie was mediocre at best for me. I guess it's because Jim Carrey is in it, but I did NOT think the movie did the books justice.
