For a nation so large, America's donation is not a good one. Denmark's Government are giving £30 millon.

Yeesh, if we spent as much money on this as we did on Iraq..

I have donated $50 via internet banking. I was thinking of donating some of my clothing but most collecting center said that they have too many clothes, sheets and blankets.

Although I did not do much, but I am glad that a lot of people from my country actually went over there to help out. They have to pay for their own air fare too. :D

It's hard for teenagers/kid to donate money to a cause like this even if they want to.

But there should be cash collections going round various areas. You can give them any spare cash you have.

Aye, there's one in the sainsburys near us :)

Meep.
I hadn't meant to start a debate on humans being animals. (And I kinda wish I hadn't said it now, because the thread got more then a bit off track. For the record, I know that humans are animals). It's just... Bleh.
Anyways.
I'm going to see if I can start a donation or something up at my college when we return. I know we raised 14000 dollars for kids with cancer in one day at RDC, so i'm fairly sure we could raise at least a thousand bucks towards the disaster fund.
If not... i'm going to work on some art... about this. And possibly sell a few bits of art towards buying fresh water, and things... like that. *nods*

Don't judge America's donation so quickly. It's expected to grow to $1 billion. The reason Bush isn't shelling out all that right now is he can't. The initial $15 mil is what was left of the emergency relief fund. When that runs out, he can't just produce more, he has to go to a counsel and request more money. It would have been nice if there was more money in there, but of course no one could have predicted this happening.

Chrome, just wondering- you say if we'd had instince people would have sensed it been able to bail out. How much time do you think beforehand they would have sensed that it was going to happen? Do you really think it would have been long enough to evacuate the entire affected area? I really don't think so.

I don't know. All I know is the animals had enough time. All they needed to do was move to higher ground.

If anything, the US government should be giving more! Latest I've heard is $35 million and sending over a team of experts to assess damages. Well, um, assessment isn't what the people need. I'm going to suck it up and ask my mom if I can donate now.

I disagree. I mean, I realize they'll need much more money, but they'll also need more than just that. They need our help, our advice and our aid. There are entire nations that will need to be rebuilt, and they're going to need more than just money to do that.

Right, but at the moment, they just need cash to aid the survivors, take care of corpses, etc.

The most urgent need is the cash. And to think America's currently offering just £5 million more than Denmark. *shakes head*

I think Canadas pledged 40 mill... thus far, and they're sending out DART I do believe (an expensive emergency response team).
I have a feeling we'll be donating more, because Canadas Parliment is out of session at the moment (I think we're back next week?) so... who knows.
But the last I knew we were on par with the US, which is kinda... amazing, considering the US outnumbers Canadians 10 to one.
*ahem*

But if you think about, Denmark is one of the richest countries in the world. Everyone is doing the best they can, I'm sure all countries will give more money. Canada so far I think is giving $40 Million. Hopefully they give more.

Personally, my family and I gave $500. It feels good knowing you'll make some sort of difference.

And I agree with you Igg saying that America has spent millions upon millions on Iraq and are shelling out so little for this.

Well it's a damn good job it is.

Yes Ammer, Denmark is rich, but it's certainly not as rich as America (although you've got that lovely economy and defecit and blah blah).

Now if my sodding country can buck its ideas up a bit :x

Whatever the case and intentions, I just hope money gets over there and people are helped!

Its so awful for those people over there, I was in tears watching the news. When I get paid on tuesday ill be donating some money, it wont be much but hopefully it will be enough to help at least one person. My mums work all donated their christmas bonuses and my daughter wanted to send some of her christmas presents over to the children, so they could have some toys. (shes only 8 )

I dont know anyone personally over there, but my friend was in florida when the hurricanes hit, so I know how worrying it is to wonder where your loved ones are. We can only hope and pray that as many people as possible are found and death toll is minimum.

I just checked the news, you're right. Thanks for the heads-up. I think most of us thought the zero at the end was a typo.

Of course this won't stop people from criticizing the U.S. Now we aren't "stingy," we're "showboating." I don't think any donation will ever be good enough for some people.

I know, I know, it's not about that. This is truly a miserable event to go into the new year with.
