Anywho, I just got my computer re-formated and upgraded. I thought it would be brand spankin' new... but NOOOOOoooo!

Problem #1:
Sometimes when I'm playing games, any game no matter what size, my computer suddenly freezes or closes my game thingy. I meet all the requirements and exceed some, whats the problem? And no, I dont have programs running while I play the games.

Problem #2:
If I download a .zip or .rar or a Installation thingy, I try to open it and it says a certain file is corrupted. This keeps on happening! I tried re-downloading it, but that doesnt work. This happens to like... 50% of everything I download.

Windows Operating System: Windows ME

Any help will be greatly appreciated. :)

for problem 1...see if there's an update for your video driver

for problem 2...instead of redownloading the file...try redownloading/installing winzip/winrar or whatever you use....on that note try another program that handles zip, rar, etc files

What happened? If possible, I highly recommend you switch back. Even for someone as hard to smurf off as me, Windows ME almost made me go ballistic at times. Even the most tolerant people on earth could not help but feel a little bit irritated, at least, by this OS. I'm glad I switched.

Can you actually tell us what the old specs were, and what the new ones are, in detail.

That means - your ram, graphics card, motherboard, cpu, and your psu.

Computer freezes can be caused by a series of problems. First of all, check your computer for virii and spyware. Your OS has nothing to do with your problems. When you are done sweeping your comouter using the latest definitions avaliable, it's time to look into hardware. Your computer is very likely overheating due to the instesity the games are requiring. To fix that, you will need a better ventialition system, provided by what we call a "cooler". You will have to check with an expert about how to intall it, as you are likely to ruin your motherboard in the proccess if you don't know what you are doing. Also, Celerons have the lowest cache out of a processors, so you might want to consider an upgrade if you want to play recent games. You'd be better-off with a Pentium 3. Or, ideally, with an Athlon 2000+

Done that, no virus, no spyware. It doesnt over heat as the games I play arent all that advanced. It isnt the latest on the market. (Gunbound, stuff like that).

My computer isnt overheating, I've checked. I have a good cooler... infact I have 2, one installed and one just sitting there.

Time to go in-depth, then. Open your box and check every connection, see if everything is properly hooked, if the PCI cards are all locked, if the memory stick is locked, if the connection from the HD is firm and so on. Don't forget to put your hands on the metalic back of the computer before you open it, though, or you will fry your cards. Clean all of the ventilation entries and any dust that might be over them with a vacuum cleaner (use a plastic tip on it to avoid any wild eletrons screwing things up).

If that STILL doesn't show any result, just back-up everything and start from scratch. You know the process? Just reboot with a boot disk on the floppy unit and type "format c:" without the quotes and then re-install Windows. That WILL solve the problem, cause if your hardware is fine and the software is clean, there is no going wrong. ME is a bit unstable, but XP will just lower your PCs efficiency. I would recommend 2000, but it's not good for gaming (very stable, tho).

Alternatively, just install Linux and Cadega (which allows you to play many Windows games, especially the latest and most popular).
