According to my parents, who got this from the weather chanel, it's heading towards Canada and it might come by tomorrow afternoon. I sincerely hope it doesn't.

Good fortune to all of you who are caught up in the storm. I really hope you are ok and all.

And of all things, people are looting the French Quarter and such places. It makes me so sick.

Somethings really got to be wrong with you if in an event like this all you care about is yourself. :/ I can understand breaking into places for food/water but really...

To those that have been/will be effected, God bless you all and all of you are in my prayers. I hope you all are okay.

I just... I don't know quite what to say.
This is brutal. And I feel awful for whats going on. It's surreal watching it on a tv... and I can't even imagine what it's like to be down there.
*shakes head*
I'm saddened that people are looting, though I can understand to an extent the panic and fear that must be happening. Especially since teh waters are going to keep rising in New Orleans at least.

We're supposed to get flooded pretty bad from the storm excess....It's been raining nonstop all day, and they might cancel school.

The scary bit is, I live in NORTHEAST OHIO.

My thoughts are with everyone directly affected....Best wishes to you all.

I hear that! I've lived here (Northwest Ohio) all my life and I don't think by the time the rain gets to us it's ever looked like a hurricane on the radar...

This time you can tell that it was x_x

Just tells you how strong the hurricane really was... it's supposed to rain here for the next 3 days...

By the time it gets there, it'll have toned down majorly. It already passed over my area (Kentucky) and all we got was about 36 hours of rain, a lot of it being pretty heavy, and some pretty strong winds, but that's all. Not really much worse than an average thunderstorm, just slightly windier and without thunder/lightning.
There were some risidual affects from it though, such as flooding in low areas. And a couple of schools were closed yesterday because of that. And my swimming pool overflowed >_<

If people can donate money to the relief effort, you really should. These people really need help, and anything you give can be a part of that help. The page below has links to places where you can donate.

Yeah, I'm going to donate some money when I get the chance. Katrina didn't do much in my area, but there were some thunderstorms to the west that put me under a tornado watch. That's not something you get often if you live in Pennsylvania.

I got one too. Nothing happened. I wasted the whole hour before my bed time watching the.. um.. whatever that thing is called. Though thats really nothing to complain about.

For animal lovers to help:

I'll be doing some donating today, hopefully..

I'm disgusted by the looting going on, but one thing that makes me feel good is how my own state, Texas, is offering help and just generally being a good neighbor to Louisiana. According to CNN, the people in the Superdome are being transported to the Houston Astrodome now.

Chrome, big, huge  to everyone in Texas helping out, giving people a place to stay that's dry and safe. And hugs to all the people in the Red Cross, National Guard, gas and electric companies from other states (I know NJ and PA are sending people) and just plain "folks" who are all doing whatever they can to help.

As of this evening's news, New Orleans is supposed to be completely evacuated (not taking the looters! into account - very scary, that....they're stealing everything including guns) and it looks like it'll be 3 to 4 months before anyone is allowed back to see what, if anything, remains. Many parts of Alabama are without power and it could be a month before they have any. So many people are in jeopardy of typoid and cholera (unheard of here in the US), along with losing everything.

And it's not completely over. The water continues to rise and move inland - not back out to sea. I don't think it can, there's so much!

My heart breaks for anyone and everyone affected by this. Of course I'll be sending donations, it's the least I can do. Unfortunately, for me it's also the most I can do, besides sending my thoughts.

Anybody who would take advantage of people in this situation will spend their eternal afterlife in the pits of hell watching "Passions" re-runs and listening to string quartet music for all eternity. :x

I've been following this, but I have found that the BBC and other news from around the world actually seems to have more news or more in-depth news than our own U.S news. They say things that other news agencies haven't said. If anyone wants to know more, they should go to BBC website or yahoo uk or something. They don't downplay the devestatation at all, they actually make it seem worse than our own news is telling us. And well, some of the pictures are more graphic, but they have different laws about what they can show I think. If you really want to get a sence of what has happened and is happening, I think it is sad that people should turn to other sources.

Anyway, there is a lot of looting going on and people being taken advantage of. There are people who don't know where the rest of their family or friends are. And sitting here in the comfort of my own home it is hard for me to really grasp it all. I've never had anything like this happen to me personally.
But even people who don't think it effects them will be effected. I heard on the radio that they are not going to run out of gas or ration gas. But there are long lines as people rush to buy it anyway, and that always effects the supply if there is a rush. I heard on the radio that there is no need to rush or wait in lines, that we are doing this to ourselves by all rushing out to buy at once. But I'll probably need to wait in those lines and rush as well because everyone else is doing that. What is sad is that a state over they gas stations can charge whatever they want to for gas and they do. I heard someone call into the radio stating that gas was 4.99. We have rules where I live and anyone being gouged is urged to call the governer or someone. Anyway, it isn't allowed for them to charge whatever they want to take advantage of people rushing in to buy gas where I live.

In the coming days I see food prices and prices of everything rising to make up for it and I don't see them going back to normal later. Once people get used to paying the high prices do you think that anyone profiting is going to lower the prices back down to pre-hurricane prices? I don't think so.

The best thing anyone can do is try rasing minium wage again. I think it is overdue for an increase. But I don't know if that even helps because people just adjust prices again to compensate and we still don't win.

Also, with all the water down there, the potential for deadly diseases, especially mosquito related ones, is great. I can tell you, the mosquitos there were probably bad before this. I know I live near the Loisianna, Arkansas border and they are pretty bad sometimes. All that water means prime breeding for them. With people having nowhere to go to the bathroom and the water is stagnat anyway, I think it is just a matter of time before people start getting sick. They need to evacuate as many people as they can. I know they have started doing this already, but it is going to take a long time. The more time it takes the worse it is going to be. More people could die from disease than from the hurricane itself.
So we are all effected by this. And I fear this isn't the end of it all.

Also, for those wondering about zoo animals or orca whales swimming in the streets. Well a SHARK has been seen.

http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/342163p-292134c.html
If you don't want to read the whole thing just push control and f at the same time and write in shark in the box and hit enter and it will find the part about the shark in the article. That is scary. Hopefully it won't get hungry and decide someone's leg will make a tasty snack. It is only a three foot one but I still think it could take a bite of someone.
