I call them soft drinks. Soda is some sort of baking powder.

It's a Texas thing (at the very least). My husband did the same thing, until I got on him about it.![]()
Personally, I refer to carbonated beverages such as colas, lemon lime drinks, etc as "soda". However, that is very unusual for my part of the USA. Most people here (all of my family included) refer to it as "pop". I started calling it soda because I spent a lot of time around some people from Connecticut, USA.
