You're saying Mandisa can't sing? I bet she'll go far.

Chris is going. He can't do ANYTHING but rock.

I would've loved to see Shakira coach the people. :)

:o Again, read this. http://www.votefortheworst.com/pickler.html

I personally think it'd be great to see Taylor Hicks singing in Spanish, shaking his hips, while wearing sparkly longerie...

Chris? Not going anywhere, fanbase is too big.

Of course Chris can't do anything but rock... he's a rocker...
Just like rappers can't do anything but rap... crooners croon.. etc etc.

It's unfair to demand he do something different when he shouldn't have to. He's not going to bring out an album and sing in a different style every single song.. or even every other song.

Should he do a different sort of rock next time? Yes, most definetly. He should change up the ROCK.... but he shouldn't do a style that's just not him.

Anywho.. God I hope next week is better than this past one. Even if it is country

But that's what people should vote on--versatility. Bo couldn't do anything but rock, and he lost. Carrie sang Heart and I think that's why she won. She stepped out of her comfort zone and wowed us.

Truthfully, I don't think versatility is really that important. We don't see Stevie Wonder singing gangsta rap and Shakira doing any hardcore grudge metal performances (um... I think?). People attempting new genres in the real world of music usually end in disaster(regardless if they're good at it or not), so making people that are adept at one thing do something that people know they're not good at sort of makes the whole competition fake, as the winner is going to sing in whatever style it is that they sing in once the whole thing is said and done, regardless of what they did on the show.

It's pretty much for the ratings and to keep people watching and prevent them from getting bored of certain contestants (and in turn, not voting for them). Even though Chris is great at rock, people are going to get tired of hearing the same stuff over and over until the competition's over.

Truthfully, though, there are very few who I really believe are really trying to sing differently. I think Elliot, and possibly Paris, are the only contestants that strike me as versatile. Unfortunately, there are tons of fan-clubs for certain people *cough*Ace*cough*, that vote for them and keep them in the competition regardless if they can sing or not. It'll take a few more weeks, but eventually, the riff-raff will be discarded and then the real competition will begin.

Take this from a Mary Mary fan = Mandisa did them proud. :) But I think I would've liked it if she had done Heaven. :\
I'm very happy she didn't get kicked off, though.

While I'm sick of commercials, House is now back. So I'm therefore calling off my boycott. See y'all next week. :P

"TOP 9 PERFORM COUNTRY TUESDAY 8/7c"

Um...yay? I don't know how Chris and Taylor will manage this.

Country rock... and you have to remember that Taylor is a country person. o_o Get ready for some harmonica-playing.

It's country rock. Not tear in your beer country that if you play backwards, he gets everything back. :P Don't think there's many harmonicas in country rock.

Hey...wonder if anyone's gonna do "Honkytonk Badonkadonk". :roflol:

No, I meant that I'm sure that Chris will do country rock. Taylor will do something involving his harmonica. o_o

Ok. Everyone chose really awful boring songs; save for Kellie, and... oddly Chris.

Chris was awesome last night. Kelly was too.

Everyone else? GO AWAY ALREADY.

Man. Worst Country Songs Ever. I was hoping someone would do something fast and nimble, no one really did. The scum. I wanted to see Mandisa sing Redneck women. Ho hum.

I forgot to watch last night's episode. Really wanted to see that one. ;_;

EDIT: I managed to hear the songs online, here's my two cents.

Ace: Did a cat randomly start dying during your performance? I don't see the visuals, but that's what I'm hearing. You need to stop with the high notes, Ace, they're not attractive or even relevant for that song. Speaking of that song, I love that song (which is a surprise because I hate Keith Urban). And you killed it. Just like you killed Train a week ago. Now please hurry up and go away.

Kellie: Regretfully, I must admit she did not totally kill this song. Slightly killed it? Yes. But not totally. Much better than her crap rendition of "Suds in the Bucket". Vocally, she pretty much sucks. But this performance was the one performance of hers where I was not cringing horribly throughout. I really love the song Fancy, and though she didn't quite do it justice, she did it well enough for me to not be screaming at her.

Chris: I love Chris. Really, I do. But I hate the song. Chris last night proved one thing- he can sing. He can do more than just scream to the latest rock craze. He can sing. But it was a bad song choice, in my opinion. If you want ballad, fine. But this is a boring ballad. It doesn't show off any kind of vocal skills (because Keith Urban doesn't have any, mostly). However, I salute you from going to screaming rocker to a ballad. It was a huge risk, but you pulled it off in a manner I didn't really hate.

Paris: The first time for me where I have really loved Paris is tonight. A couple notes in there were shakey, but otherwise... just wow. She was right on with song choice last night. In the beginning, it was obvious people preferred Lisa to her. Now that Lisa has left the Idol train, I think Paris is really beginning to shine. Her talent, from this song observation, is great. It was pretty much goosebumps during the whole thing for this one.

Elliot: Elliot is a great performer, and seems like a great guy. But this wasn't really doing it for me like other performances have. He showed nice vocals, but it was really forgettable. The beginning and the middle of the song were just alright for me, but at the ending he got a bit better. He has a great voice, but I don't think he conveyed it well last night.

Mandisa: Eek. No. That song didn't show off any vocals at all, really. It just sounded like some sort of rodeo karaoke rendition... as I was listening to it, I just wanted it to be over. Mandisa has a good voice, but this was just awful. Sad to say, I found more enjoyment in the vocal stylings of Kellie Pickler.

Taylor: Oh look, another rodeo song. I don't know why people keep saying this guy has lots of talent. He's a bottomfeeder with Kellie Pickler in my opinion. This song didn't do anything to help that opinion. This song doesn't show off any vocals, and a bunch of these notes sound way off to me (but Taylor doesn't usually do songs that show off vocals, because he doesn't have much). It was like Mandisa's in the aspect that I wanted it to be over pretty much from the beginning.

Katherine: Wow, definitely something I wouldn't expect from Katherine. Great job, though. I was thoroughly entertained. This song definitely showed off a fun side of Katherine. She usually sings, in my honest opinion, boring songs, and this one was just fun. I didn't hear anything that sounded painful, which is a good thing, considering the amount of that I heard. Overall really nice.

Bucky: How awful. I had hope for Bucky after hearing Katherine do so well, but this was just awful. This song shows off no vocals at all. Considering it's country week, and Bucky tends to do country, I was expecting a lot more. I see a bottom three in Bucky's very near future if he keeps this up for much longer.

Who should be in the bottom three: Bucky, Mandisa, and Ace
Who will be in the bottom three: Since none of those people have overly large fanbases, it could quite possibly be Bucky, Mandisa, and Ace.

I listened to it on http://www.overmused.com

I've heard it sounds a bit different live, though.

Thanks. :)

Taylor - Gah, it was pretty bad. I don't know the original song, but I'll assume he butchered the song. He sounded terrible at times and it was a bit boring.

Mandisa - Yeah, it was terrible, borderline irritating. I was skeptic at first, but she was bad. Though I didn't expect her to be able to pull of the country gal routine. :P

Elliot - Nice voice, as usual, but the song was a bit boring. :\ One of the better performances though.

Paris - Like the song, liked the performance. She didn't ruin the song either. :) I'd probably say she was the best female performance of the night.

Ace - I can sum this up in three words: Shoot. Me. Now.

Kelly - Okay, I guess. The end was a lot better than the end, but there were definitely worse. (Ace, Mandisa, Taylor)

Chris - Pretty good, the best male performance for sure. Did a good job getting of the rock as well.

Katherine - Okay. The song was meh, and a bit repetitive to begin with. The singing was decent though.

Bucky - Bucky, Bucky, you never make an above average performance? Why are you still on!? It would have been fine if not for the scratchiness, and if he didn't ruin the song...

My Bottom Three of the Night: Mandisa, Ace, Bucky
Who I think will be Bottom Three: Ace, Bucky, Taylor

I really do think that the bomb's about to drop on Taylor soon for some reason, don't know why. He's been below average a bit like bucky, just not to the same extent.
