The deal with Charon is that, if it was called a planet, it and Pluto would be referred to as a binary planetary system much like two stars orbiting each other or a common center of gravity are called. Thing is, that might have meant Earth and our moon could've been called the same thing.

No worries with that. Pluto and Charon rotate around a point that is not within the bodies of either - that is, they rotate around a point in open space. The moon rotates around a point pretty close to the center of the earth.

Ooh, ooh, that's corotation! Because the point around which both objects are rotating is outside of both objects.
(Yay, that's the first time I've ever been able to spout off something I learned in college!)
That also means that because Earth's moon is moving farther away, eventually the point around which the Earth and its moon will be outside of the Earth, and it will no longer be considered a moon. At least, I think that's what my teacher said.

But back to the topic at hand...Poor Pluto. The common people still love you!

Absolutely correct. Actually, there's going to be a point in time when the moon escapes earth's gravity and flies off into space. That means that among other things there will be no tides.

Well, here's a new mnemonic for those of you wondering how to memorize the planets:

My Very Educated Mother Just Sent Us Nothing. Nothing. Absolu-frickin-lutely nothing.

And, when you include the dwarf planets:

My Very Educated Mother Could Just Send Us Nine Pink Xylophones.

What about those years when Neptune is farther away from the sun than Pluto? What the children learn then?

Anyway, I could care less about whether Pluto is a planet or not, so long as it doesn't crash into the earth.

It's quite a bummer that Marvin the Martian and Daffy Duck will blow it to bits in the twenty-fourth-and-a-half century. =P

And that means that there will be much less ocean current, which could have both positive and negative effects. On positive, there will be much less driftwood. Yeah, that's about it. On the negative side, there will be increased amounts of insects that breed on/in the water, which would make the oceans unbearable, much like lakes and such at night. It would take spills and such much longer to dissipate. The list goes on...

Forget that, Sailor Pluto is now a lie.

Oh no! I forgot about that. She was my favourite. :(

She'll just be remastered as a chibi for blu-ray.

Seriously, the moment I saw this thread I thought, "What about Sailor Moon, how will they take this?".

Stupid show and their stupid mind control techniques!

What worries me is that Sailor Pluto guards the Door of Time. If her planet is no longer classified as a planet, will she be demoted? I know she got the position in part because her dad is Chronos, but in my opinion she's best suited for the job. If her planet is now a dwarf planet, will she be chibi-sized and turn into another Mini Moon? That makes my heart cry. ;_; Also, who will then guard the Door of Time? I think that's a much more pressing problem than losing a planet. :/
