Of course, rarely, a user will pick up a pet and actually make it a pet page and give it a fursonality. But that is clearly a rare thing. People willing to do that would generally not surf the pound but come here to the adoption board or to an adoption site to look for a pet rather than snatch the first painted monstrosity that comes along.

Hey, I've done that. I had a lucky find and got a fire peophin with a well fitting name from the pound, and I've come up with a personality, custom look, and the start of a story for him. A random lucky find when I was browsing the pound out of boredom that inspired a whole new character for me. Granted, a fire peophin isn't the most sought after pet in the world, but it was still a nice find for me and I was really happy that I got him.

I think it's mean and pretty stupid for these GUP people to be taking away opportunities for people like me to stumble upon nice pets in the pound. I work hard for my painted and LE pets, but that doesn't mean I can't adopted one once and a while.

I don't want to get all outraged about it, but I still think it's very uncool. People who are that dead set against anyone getting an expensive pet for free and want to spend their own hard earned NPs to make sure they can't are taking this game way too seriously, and need to consider taking their heads out of their own butts and finding some new hobbies. :P

In reality, begging for painted Neopets or surfing the pound looking for Neopets and only adopting them because of their colour, while perfectly legitimate, is, well... we'll just say it's not as rewarding an experience as creating a Neopet (or adopting one) and enhancing it yourself. While many players consider the practice of these "GUP" users "cruel," we find it no more cruel than people who only adopt Neopets for their use as a status symbol and dump them back in the pound as soon as a "better" colour comes along... or people who require outrageous "applications" for their Neopets only to use it to draw attention to themselves and hold other users in the balance while they decide.

TNT is silly. GUP folks do simply surf the pound looking for painted pets, only to abandon them as soon as their goal is acheived. And a majority of them use GUP to draw attention to themselves and get that whole power play experience xD TNT seemed to differentiate between the average 'GUPper' and the average pound surfing, glory hogging user, when I see very little difference. If they're going to look down on transfers, pet power playing, and adopting/abandoning for status, it seems consistant to look down on GUP, instead of giggling about it.

I have my three dream pets, and its fun to pound an adopted, labbed pet (sans application and giant neoboard announcements) and see who gets it. Almost all of my 21 labbed pets are still in the account of the person who first adopted them. Its not as cool for someone to take my pet because its painted, morph it to prove a point, and abandon it again so it sits there unwanted for days.

Has anyone here actually SEEN one of the Green Uni Project's victims? It seems to me that a few people were doing this, bragging on the Neoboards, and somehow got into the Editorial. The people who were doing it have probably quit by now. I highly doubt this is a widespread thing.

Cerise, I think you have some very good points. I'm also disappointed that TNT has practically sanctioned these people. :(

*blinks a few times after looking at that website*
That's taking it a bit too far, don't ya think? I think they're a bit too proud of themselves...
What's next? A famous scammer making a page about all scammer ideas that have been successful with the names of them so they can all pat themselves on their backs?
Oiy...

GUP did the same thing, otherwise no-one would now they existed. It was only their bragging and petpages about it, that made people aware what was going on.

The group has been around for quite awhile - I have heard about them before. It was probably a new wave of bragging on the boards that has caused the latest outbreak of anger.

On the zapping the Green Unis - I think it's a great idea!
It's much better than the alternative, which has shown up on the Neoboards Help Chat: PGU
PGU - Poison Green Uni is a group which formed in retaliation...they're adopting the green Unis that the GUP sends there, feeding them poisonous food and then dumping them back in the pound. A few of their members are actually labbing the Unis, but poisoning them?! That's cruel...
Hopefully it'll all blow over soon.

It doesn't take away a chance to get a pet any more than regular pound surfers do. I also doubt they're taking the game too seriously. It sounds more like the people against them are. Most complaints are because poor pound surfers have one less chance at getting a painted pound pet (boo hoo). It's not the end of the world, there's never going to be a shortage of labbed pets in the pound, even I lab and pound quite often. If a GUP gets it, who cares, I didn't want it anyway! Everyone's making mountains out of mole hills. Green Uni MPs will rise in price eventually and people will get bored. And while it lasts, it's giving myself and others (including TNT) great amusement.

I think this whole thing is being taken too seriously.

Yeah, and TNT would really find that funny. You're comparing something illegal with something perfectly ok that merely annoys you. It's like comparing a drunk driver to a driver who perposely had a huge exhaust fitted just to make a lot of noise. The noise annoys you, but it's not illegal and isn't doing anything wrong (baring the whole "environment thing, since all cars affect that! Bloody 4X4s!).

I agree with you Daze. People who collect rare pets and then dump them when something more "rare" comes along aren't hurting anyone else.

Except the pound snipers that are delibirately looking for painted pets, who also don't care if it was pounded or if it was a transfer. Those obnoxious people wouldn't care less if it was a transfer or not, perhaps they'd even try to snipe them off from the start. I'd put more trust in getting a transfer pet back from the GUP's than from some obnoxious sniper.

Rakumel wrote:
There's something I'm not quite understanding. Do members of this GUP actively snipe pets during a transfer, or do they surf the pound looking for any painted pet they come across? If it's the former, that's incredibly mean-spirited and I disapprove of the action; if it's the latter, then it's just kinda pointless, but not something I'd really get in a snit about. If someone wants to waste their NP morphing pets, that's their choice.

It's probably the latter. There is no malicious intent in morphing colored pets to green Uni's, except to deny greedy pound snipers mentioned above a pet they don't really deserve.

I agree that it isn't nice for people that donate (lab) painted pets to the community, all their hard work being cancelled out. Then again, it's not exactly 'hard' work now, is it? And they might end up donating pets to greedy people as well, I'm not sure how good a feeling you can get out of that...

They might've gone a bit extreme with the action, but I agree with their point that people should work for their pets instead of just grabbing one. My thoughts are of course also influenced due to having lost a pet myself to some #%*&^$ sniper who refused to give it back.

This statement is perfect.

Your point would be valid... except that you can be arrested for excessive noise. A too loud car is bad for the environment, annoying, and can potentially be loud enough to make it difficult for the driver to hear sirens and be able to react if an emergency vehicle is coming up behind them or to the side.
The same goes for loud music... it's annoying... and too loud, you can be pulled over, ticketed, and even arrested.
(I only know because I work in the news and we're actually doing a story on it as I type and don't do the work I'm paid to do :P )

I have no problem with this, once a pet is in the pound it is up for the taking.

Transfers are relatively safe if done through AIM. Just give a 3, 2, 1 countdown, and when the reciever sees "3", they hold down F5 on the quick adopt page for 20 seconds or so. Their computer's delay between refreshes should be infinitely smaller than the time it would take a pound lurker to register "Oh hey, painted pet!" and click the buttons neccessary.

I'm not pro-GUP, as I see it as a waste of time and money (not to mention annoyingly attention seeking), but they're not breaking any rules, and no new rules need to be implemented so........ Whatever.

I wonder if these people realise that some people lab pets FOR others to adopt.
Kinda stupid if you ask me. Just my opinion, though.

Ya know, not everyone who adopts pets at the pound is in it as a greedy pound sniper. I used to search the pound for pets I liked to buff their stats a bit before I put them back into the pound. I picked up a couple nicely colored pets along the way and I don't think anyone complained when I upped them by a few levels and played around with their stats before releasing them.

Not everyone is a greedy pound sniper.

I did not say everybody. I just mean that small portion of gamers. I know not everybody's like that, that's why I only mentioned them and not all pounders.

I don't hear anybody having any arguments about how few of the people really do ruin the fun for others by stealing pets that were meant for yourself or someone else.. Everytime someone's lost a pet, there's like "Ow, too bad. But hey, they are allowed to do it, it's legal, once it's in the pound it's fair game for all, etc etc." But people adopting pets to change them to standard pets raises such a commotion?

Well, apparently all the people that complain about what the GUP does. They say that people should be able to get a nice pet if they want to. In other words, people like GUP have no right in doing such a thing. Mind you, people are still able to get a nice colored pet, they just have more competition. Also, TNT is to say what who deserves what, and they don't see anything wrong with GUP.

I'm not saying I agree with them, I'm also not saying I disagree with them. Many people just see one side of things, I'm just trying to point out other sides to it. Personally, I couldn't care less what they do.
