After seeing varii's thread, I am wondering...

Is it profitable to buy breakable toys to have your pet play with them until they break to sell them after they are broken? Is there a big market for broken toys?

Heh, if there was profit to be made before, it probably won't happen now. :P There's no telling how many people are reading this now, thinking, "Hey! Easy money!" Then they all go out and break things, only to discover that...oops! a bunch of other people did it too, thus devaluing their broken item.

Actually, come to think of it, there was one instance where a broken toy did land me some extra NP, but I wasn't out specifically to make a profit. See, what happened was, I took some broken Click Clacks to Donny for him to repair. Well, he couldn't do it, and gave me a different item instead - a Mark of Ka-hutep paddleball toy, which at the time was worth way more than fixed Click Clacks. BUT, having said that - it only happened once, quite a while ago. I don't know how often he does that, or even if it still happens. So I doubt doing that on a large scale would be very profitable.

Hmm, though I sense a project coming on...

I am not too sure as I haven't checked the shop wiz, but it would be easy to find out. Just checked the prices of unbroken toys, then check the price of them broken.

But then, that doesn't necessarily mean that anyone would 'buy' the broken toys.

It also doesn't mean that there is a market for the unbroken either.

Broken or unbroken the items will sell.

A very quick check between unbroken and broken - some are worth more, some are worth less and some worth about the same.

Ripped Blue Chia Plushie 200 nps
Blue Chia Plushie 300 nps.

Broken Fuzzie Bear around 930 nps
Fuzzie Bear 700 nps.

Ripped Cheery Tomato Plushie around 7400 nps
Cheery Tomato Plushie aound 4300 nps.

Broken Red Toy Car around 750 nps
Red Toy Car around 650 nps.

The ripped mutant chia plushie uesed to be worth 15k more than the regular long LONG ago, but things change. The toys that can be repaired now has changed many dynamics. Also, as soon as such a descepency is noticed, it is overstripped as a revenue source by many. There are so many better ways to make NP.

As a professional toy breaker/buyer, I would say no as long as the item is buyable. I have been stalking and have stalked several higher priced broken toys for a while now, and I know some of the cheaper sellers usernames by heart. And I have a deal with one seller that if their Flat Tyred Golden bike doesn't sell soon, she'll give it to me for 20k off.

I'm not sure if there is any quest that requires broken toys as for a lot of them it knocks their rarity up to 101 so I guess the only people who buy them are people with collections and people buying up the cheaper items for Packrat.

Although, Ripped Chia plushies can sell for a higher price to those looking for them just because they are frellin' hard to rip if you don't have a Lupe and aren't willing to adopt lIl_d3vi1_r0xz129847328746 from the pound even for five minutes so they'll rip the dang thing for you. But again, I'm talking about plushies already worth over 100k.
