Whose fault is it then? Was it the kidnapper's fault the children were left unattended for long periods for several nights in a row?

Back to the actual topic...I feel very sorry for that little girl and her family. The parents did what many parents do, and unfortunately, something tragic happened. That's how life goes these days. We can't do the things we were able to do 20 years ago. There are too many people with bad intentions now, and I feel bad that this family is now a victim of not only the person who abducted their daughter, but of the people who feel that the blame must rest with the parents.

People have always had bad intentions. There has always been pedophiles, murderers, rapists, and the likes. You just hear about it much more often these days.

There must have been just as much kidnapping going on 20 years ago, you just don't really hear about it.

Exactly, the "decline of traditional moral values" hasn't suddenly turned everyone into a paedo.

If the children were asleep when they went to the restaurant, who really wants to wake their kids up so they can take them downstairs and put them into the care of a stranger?
Yes, in retrospect it was a mistake. But every parent will make mistakes in parenting.
Haven't they suffered enough without other people saying they deserve it?

Well, for starters, there is no knowing whether the parents are innocent or not. It's always a possibility that they killed their own child, and tried to frame someone.

and yes, I would wake my child in order for us to go have a meal. What if the poor soul had a nightmare, and wanted a cuddle from mummy? Or what, as I had said, would happen if they found "pretty colourful liquid" in the cupboard under the sink?

It was bad news waiting to happen.

No one knows. The difference is that I assume, if they're freaking out and no suspicion has fallen on them yet, that they're innocent. I guess "innocent until proven guilty" is not only a quirk of the American justice system, it's also a quirk of my personal attitude.
And as to the other part, go back and read the part where I said they made a mistake.

I think its fair to say that you have been warned innumerous times. An administrator has even stepped in and told you all to stop. If this trend of conversation continues this thread WILL be locked.

Everyone has stated and restated their points about what they think the parents were doing/feeling/thinking. If there is nothing more to discuss but this, than there is no point in this thread staying active. Obviously no one has any new points and would rather run around in circles ignoring the warning of the moderating staff.

I am becoming increasingly disbelieving of your incapability to listen when an administrator tells you to knock it off.

They did make a mistake, I was merely confuzzled about this part:

They could have took the child to dinner with them, too. There are 100 ways this could have been prevented.

Sad to say, there isn't 100 ways this could have been worse. :/

I'm not sure what you mean. The administrators were first warning due to flames and a general bad attitude, then due to offtopicness.
I believe that parental responsability is on topic, do you disagree?

Feel free to get an admin to come and clear this up, but I believe we're on topic.

Also; you're breaking a whole new rule alltogether... Back-seat moderating. ;)

Sorry bud, but the orange stars say otherwise.

So that I'm on topic: Too many people seem to not understand what it means and requires to be a parent. They're actually doing a similar show on NBC about younger couples trying to live on their own. I don't know, it just seems like people don't get the whole picture of what life needs anymore.

You are on topic but you are not posting anything of importance to the topic. This subject has been covered and recovered and is now bordering on spam in my opinion. You are making no progress what-so-ever and are simply restating the same points - I see absolutely no new information entering the conversation from you.

Moderators can't back-seat mod as far as I can determine. Perhaps you are privy to some kind information that I am not.. such as my demotion?

Oh, whoops. Still getting used to this star system, sorry.

I'll leave this thread until someone comes up with another interesting point, then.

To be honest I think this thread should be locked immediately.

If we bugger off and let people get back to saying "oh noes!" as you say, there will be "no progress what-so-ever" and people will be "simply restating the same points" over and over.

I feel so bad for her and her parents
Me too
Yeah me too
I cry when I think about it
I'm very sad.

Translation:
Yes it is
Yes, it is
Yes, it is

Well that's just as pointless as:
no it isnt
yes it is
no it isnt
yes it is

Or am I wrong? Is expressing the same sentiment over and over and over right, whereas having different opinions is wrong?
