I am still at the Temple of the Skye, w/out Velm. But a monster just dropped me a "staff of friendship", which I cannot equip anyone.
Strange! Very Strange!
Yeah, I've had that before. I kinda sat there going .....o.O until I realised it was a Velm weapon, but I didn't have Velm yet, it was just the general area to get him in.
That's happened to me before with Velm's armour. There are a lot of odd quirks in NQ2--the first time I ever played, I was attacked by a party of three shadow gelerts(pre-Zombom monsters). I've never heard of anyone else ever getting a three-monster attack party so early in the game.

Hey. In Lakeside, of the weapon / armour upgrades, which ones are worth going for?
Rohane: Steel Shortsword +14 Dmg vs Notched Iron Shortsword +12 Dmg, +1 Crit Was gonna stick with the Iron Shortsword for the +1 Crit?
Steel Chain Tunic +14 Def vs Rusty Chain Tunic +5 Def This one seems an obvious upgrade
Mipsy: Cardboard Wand +6 Dmg vs Sawdust Wand +4 Dmg Upgrading a wand not worth it unless it adds to skills?
Trainee's Robe +6 Def vs Initiate's Robe +4 Def Not as obvious, only a small upgrade vs the time to get the money?
I suppose it depends on what level is recommended for entering the Lost City as to whether its worth spending however long running around to get the 900/1800 gp for them? I'm level 13 already (playing on Evil). Cheers for help.

Mipsy: Cardboard Wand +6 Dmg vs Sawdust Wand +4 Dmg Upgrading a wand not worth it unless it adds to skills? This depends on whether or not you're having her use magic.
Trainee's Robe +6 Def vs Initiate's Robe +4 Def Not as obvious, only a small upgrade vs the time to get the money? Any defense boost is nice.
Ok cool thanks. Yeh, now that I've seen some more battles with Mipsy she seems to get bashed about a lot. Any suggestions on what level before going to the Lost City on Evil?

Well, for Phororphor, 13 is a good level, and by the time you get to the boss, you should be at level 14 at least. If you still don't feel comfortable, just level up around Lakeside before heading off.
A good way to judge what's "worth it" is to add the useful skill points to the overall attack/defense power of your equipped item. Then you can compare that number to the attack/defense power of whatever it is you're considering buying. If the shop's item is at least three points higher, it's probably worth buying. If it's two points higher, it comes down to the value of those extra skill points on the original weapon(unless there are none, in which case go for it) and possibly whether you have the gold on hand to buy it. If it's one point higher, it's probably not worth it unless it's a robe for Mipsy(who has abysmal defence) or you have excess gold.
